Hey there! Chef AI ("we," "our," or "us" - we're not a royal "we," we're just a team) is super committed to protecting your privacy. We know privacy policies are boring, so we'll try to make this as painless as possible. This document explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app. TL;DR: We're not creepy, we promise.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

We collect the basics: your name (so we can personalize recipes), phone number (for account stuff), and profile info. We don't need your social security number, blood type, or your mother's maiden name - we're not a bank.

Usage Information

We automatically collect info about how you use the app - like which recipes you love (or hate), ingredients you photograph (yes, we see that questionable expired yogurt), and how often you use the app. This helps us make Chef AI better. We're not stalking you, we're just... observing. For science.

How We Use Your Information (The Fun Part)

We use your info to:

  • Make Chef AI work (obviously) and keep improving it
  • Generate recipes that don't suck (personalization is key)
  • Answer your questions when you email us (we're helpful like that)
  • Send you updates (like when we add new features or fix bugs)
  • Figure out what features you actually use (so we can build more of the good stuff)
  • Keep your account safe from hackers (because nobody wants their recipe data stolen)

Data Storage and Security (We Take This Seriously)

We encrypt everything because we're not amateurs. Your data is stored securely and encrypted both when it's traveling (in transit) and when it's sitting around (at rest). That said, nothing on the internet is 100% secure - not even Fort Knox (probably). We do our best, but if aliens hack us, that's on them, not us.

Third-Party Services (We Don't Do Everything Ourselves)

We lean on a few trusted third parties because building literally everything ourselves would take until the heat death of the universe. The main players:

  • Clerk - handles logging you in, so that's one fewer password for us to lose sleep over.
  • RevenueCat - wrangles subscriptions and flips the switch on ChefAI Pro.
  • Apple App Store & Google Play - actually process the payments (they hold the wallet, not us).
  • Analytics and cloud storage - keep the app running and slowly getting smarter.

These services have their own privacy policies - we're not responsible for their shenanigans, but we only work with reputable companies.

Subscriptions & Payments (Show Me the Money Data)

When you go Pro, Apple's App Store or Google Play handles the payment - we never see or touch your credit card details (honestly, we don't want that responsibility). We use RevenueCat to keep track of subscriptions, so we get the boring-but-useful stuff: which plan you picked, when it renews or expires, and an anonymized purchase ID. We use it for exactly one thing - unlocking Pro for you and keeping your status accurate. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat each have their own privacy policies covering this data.

Your Rights (You Have Power!)

You're not powerless here! You can:

  • See what data we have on you (it's probably less exciting than you think)
  • Fix any mistakes we made (we're human, errors happen)
  • Delete your account and data (we'll be sad, but we'll do it)
  • Opt-out of certain data collection (though some is necessary for the app to work)
  • Export your data (take your recipes and run, we won't stop you)

Children's Privacy (No Kids Allowed)

Our app is for people 13 and older. If you're under 13, sorry kid - come back when you're older. We don't knowingly collect info from children because that's creepy and also illegal. If you're a parent and your kid is using the app, please supervise them (and maybe teach them to cook?).

Changes to This Policy (We Might Update This)

We might update this policy occasionally (because laws change, technology evolves, and we learn new things). When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. We'll try to notify you of big changes, but you should check back here every now and then. Or don't - we're not your boss.
